Ireland’s ‘New Poor’ Need Food Banks to Eat

I remember the Famine time very clearly – it made a big impression on me when I read it as history at school in The Netherlands. At about the same time there was some blight or other on potatoes grown locally, and I saw this grown up guy getting all panicky in a shop in case there would be no more potatoes. I am pretty sure that by that time it was post-war and there was food being imported from USA, but I have never forgotten that poor man.
